Karen L. Dodson, Coordinator of Faculty Development Programs and Academic Publishing Services
Karen Dodson has more than 25 years of professional experience in journalism, public affairs and biomedical publishing. She has been a member of the Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) community for 17 years, first in the Office of Medical Public Affairs, where she developed and directed the publications division. In 1995, she left the university and joined Elsevier Health Sciences as a manager in the company’s biomedical journals division. In 2001, she returned to WUSM as managing editor of the American Journal of Physiology–Endocrinology and Metabolism, a position she still holds. In 2003, Karen developed Academic Publishing Services (APS) to assist WUSM authors with writing biomedical journal articles, books and grant proposals. Now a division of the Office of Faculty Affairs, APS also offers educational programs on grant writing, publishing, and oral presentation skills. As Coordinator of Faculty Development Programs, Karen will continue to oversee APS as well as other faculty career development programs. Karen is a member of the Department of Medicine faculty, where she teaches scientific writing and grantsmanship to clinical research trainees.
